This page provides information about antivirus software applications that are licensed and supported by the University of Michigan and are available free to members of the U-M community for use on their personal or work computers for non-commercial purposes. It includes links to VirusScan (for Windows computers) and Virex (for Macintosh computers) that will enable you to download the most current versions of these applications
VirusScan
v. 4.5 antivirus software is for use on computers running
older versions of Windows, including Windows 95, Windows 98, and
Windows ME, while VirusScan 7 is for
Windows NT, Windows 2000 (client), and Windows XP (Home and
Pro).
Download
the current version of VirusScan and instructions for
installing it.
(If you need help downloading the files, refer to the
documentation.)
Note:
DSAV, the former antivirus software used at U-M, was retired by its
vendor in April, 2000, and we terminated all support for it on 1
September, 2000.
Virex
v. 6.1 antivirus software is for use on computers running the
Macintosh operation system, including Mac OS 7.x-Mac OS
9.x. You may also find information here on the current status of
antivirus software for OS X.
Download
the current version of Virex and instructions for installing
it
using Fetch. (If you need help using Fetch, refer to the
documentation.)
For
System Administrators: Download
the current version of Virex
Administrator
using Fetch.
To be effective, antivirus software must be current -- even two-month-old software can be dangerously outdated. Check this Web page regularly to obtain any new information about antivirus software at U-M and to download the latest antivirus software updates to protect your computer.
