Solicitations to Purchase Computer Related Products and Services

What to do if you receive a questionable advertisement

If you receive an advertisement about a computer-related product or service and wonder if it is supported by the University of Michigan, you can contact the ITCS consultants at 734-764-HELP to find out.

Companies may claim to be associated or affiliated with U-M, and their solicitations look like they originate from us because they may include "Michigan" or "University" in the company title. You should be wary if "umich.edu" is not listed in the URL site address. Please do not purchase computer products based on the assumption that such companies have our approval, sanction, endorsement, or sponsorship.

For members of the campus community, ITCS provides the Basic Computing Package. Additional services and products as well as computers and software are available to you at or below market cost by contacting the U-M Computer Showcase at showcase.web@umich.edu or 734-647-2537.

The Computer Showcase, Campus Computing Sites, and Residence Halls Computing Sites support products and services offered by U-M. Should you decide to choose outside products, we are unable to judge the quality or service level of those products, or follow up on any complaints or problems you may subsequently experience.

If you are concerned that a company or individual is violating U-M's information technology policy, you should contact the U-M Information Technology User Advocate at abuse@umich.edu.
