Transition from Message Center and Meridian to Exchange Voice Mail Begins

April 10, 2008

The transition to Exchange Voice Mail from two older voice mail services is beginning. ITCom project managers are currently working with departments to explain the process and to schedule cutover dates.

The transition is happening because cost effective vendor support is no longer available from the vendors for the two older voice mail systems, and the decision was made to leverage the growing Exchange infrastructure on campus.

People who use the ITCS Exchange Service for e-mail will receive an Exchange Unified account that includes voice mail, e-mail, and calendar. Calendar-Only Exchange users—and those who do not use the ITCS Exchange Service—will receive Exchange Voice Mail Only accounts.

How do you know if you currently have Message Center or Meridian? You can tell based on the number you dial, or have your telephone programmed to dial, to pick up your voice messages:

  • Message Center: (93)6-5000 Ann Arbor, (43)6-9140 Dearborn, or (76)6-6690 Flint
  • Meridian: (99)8-6280

If you dial, or have your telephone programmed to dial, (93)6-2500 Ann Arbor, (59)3-5312 Dearborn, or (76)2-3323) Flint to pick up voice messages, you have U-M Voice Mail and are not affected by this transition.
