The 2008 UMnet Distribution Layer Switch (DLS) upgrades in 19 campus buildings are nearing completion. Plans for the second year of the four-year project call for upgrades in another 36 buildings beginning in May 2009.
The DLS connects a building's local data networks to the UMnet Backbone network. One new DLS per building will be funded as part of the UMnet Backbone infrastructure. Units that wish to provide a second (redundant) DLS for their building may purchase it through ITCS/ITCom.
