Microsoft Office 2007 Media Available to Departments

January 30, 2007

Departments can now order Office Enterprise 2007 for Windows media from ITCS Software Licensing and Distribution (SWLD). As part of the Microsoft Campus Agreement, the license is already paid for. Each department need only purchase one $10 DVD regardless of how many computers it will be installed on. Office 2007 will run on Windows XP with SP 2, Server 2003, and Vista.

Two caveats:

  1. This Enterprise edition can be installed only on University-owned computers.
  2. Office 2007 uses a new file format that cannot be opened by Office 2003 and earlier versions. It will convert existing files to the new format when it opens them. To share or use them on another computer running Office 2003 or earlier, a special copy containing the pre-2007 format must be made.

Individuals will be able to purchase Office Ultimate 2007 for Windows for their personal computers sometime in late April or early May from the U-M Computer Showcase.
