Set Up a Temporary Phone Greeting for Holidays and Vacations

December 4, 2007

If you'll be away from the office for the holidays, a vacation, or any other reason, you might want to record a temporary telephone greeting. A temporary greeting overrides your regular greeting while you are away from your office. Using a temporary greeting eliminates the need to re-record your personalized regular greeting when you return to the office after a vacation or other time away. Here's how to set up a temporary greeting.

U-M Voice Mail (and Centrex Meridian) Instructions

When you set a temporary greeting, it becomes effective immediately.

From your voice mail mailbox:

  1. Dial 82 to select Greetings.
  2. Press 3 to select Temporary Greeting.
  3. Press 5 to record your greeting.
  4. Press 9 to set the expiry date and time.
  5. When the temporary greeting expires, it is deleted, and callers once more hear your regular greeting when they reach your voice mail.

U-M Message Center Instructions

Your temporary greeting does not become active until you activate it (Step 5 below).

From your voice mail mailbox:

  1. Press 9 to select Settings.
  2. Press 1 to select Temporary (Alternate) Greeting.
  3. Press 2 to record your greeting.
  4. Press 5 to activate the new greeting.
  5. When you return to the office, dial 914 to re-activate your regular greeting.
