Use Sites Software from Anywhere with Virtual Sites
The new Virtual Sites service lets you log in remotely to a Campus Computing Sites Windows computer and use the licensed software on it from your own computer. The service is available to students, faculty, and staff. The University of Michigan is one of the first large academic institutions to implement such a program on a campus-wide scale.
The service gives you the ability to use the specialized software available on Sites computers remotely whenever you need to. It lets faculty try out the Sites software available to their students without having to visit a Site. It saves faculty, staff, and students the cost of purchasing specialized software that they may use infrequently.
Users can connect to Virtual Sites from Windows, Macintosh or Linux computers; supported Web browsers are Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. While the new service connects to Windows computers, future plans include support for connecting to Macintosh computers. Also planned are "virtual classrooms" that instructors can reserve for their students.
