E-mail Filtering for Viruses

Incoming Mail

E-mail coming in to U-M e-mail servers is checked against current virus definitions. If a virus is detected, the e-mail is rejected from delivery.

Outgoing Mail

Outgoing e-mail is also checked for viruses. This stops virus-infected computers at U-M from sending virus-generated mail.

Some departments and units on campus run their own servers for sending mail. Outgoing mail is not protected by the same process that ITCS uses, though departments may run their own process.
