NOTE: If you later choose to use Exchange for your e-mail as well, your Calendar-Only account can easily be converted. Just let your system administrator know.

Configuring Your Computer
After your system administrator has set up your account, you must configure Outlook 2003 to use only the Calendar feature. If you are not comfortable performing this configuration, please ask your system administrator to help you.
We've made it simple by creating a rule that you can download to your desktop.
Follow the steps below to import the rule into Outlook.
NOTE: If you have not already created your Exchange account in Outlook, please follow the steps in Setting Up Outlook/Exchange on a Windows Computer before proceeding.
- In Outlook, from the Tools menu, select Rules and Alerts.

- In the Rules and Alerts window, click Options.

- In the Options window, click Import Rules.

- In the Import Rules from window:

- Back in the Options window, click OK.
- In the Rules and Alerts window, you'll see the rule you imported. Click OK.

Using Calendar-Only with Your E-Mail Program
You'll receive e-mail invitations in your e-mail program, but how you are accept them and enter them into your calendar depends on the program you're using.
If you use the web-based mail.umich.edu, Thunderbird, or Eudora, please carefully read the appropriate section. If you use a different e-mail program, please ask your system administrator how to use it with Exchange Calendar-Only.

mail.umich.edu Thunderbird Eudora

mail.umich.edu
The web-based mail.umich.edu can be confusing. You'll see a meeting invitation combined with an opporturnity to accept the invitation. Don't be fooled!
CAUTION! Accepting the invitation in mail.umich.edu will send your reply to the requester but does not schedule the meeting in your calendar. You must use OWA or Outlook to enter the meeting in your calendar.

Thunderbird
You'll receive notification of meeting requests as text messages. You can reply to the requester that you accept the proposal, but this does not enter the meeting in your calendar.
CAUTION! Sending an acceptance reply in Thunderbird to the requester does not schedule the meeting in your calendar. You must use OWA or Outlook to enter the meeting in your calendar.
Eudora
You'll receive text messages notifying you of meeting requests, but the message will also include a calendar attachment. If you are reading your e-mail on the same computer where you have an Exchange account established, you can accept the invitation and enter it into your calendar by opening the attachment without viewing your Exchange Inbox. Please read the CAUTION! note below.
NOTE: You can also accept the invitation using OWA or Outlook.
- In Eudora, double-click the attachment icon.

- In the Eudora Warning! window, click Open.

- If you are not already logged into your Exchange account, you'll be prompted to do so.
HINT: You can have your computer configured to automatically log on to Active Directory to avoid this prompt. Please check with your system administrator.
- Your meeting invitation will open, and you can accept it without viewing your calendar. To view your calendar, click the Calendar button.

CAUTION! Using this method will keep the meeting request in your Outlook/OWA Inbox. OWA/Outlook will warn you if you are duplicating the acceptance and meeting in your calendar. Click Cancel and delete the invitation in your OWA/OutlookInbox.
