Using Mulberry 3 for E-Mail, continued

Using Mulberry's Address Book
The address book lets you maintain your own list of e-mail addresses and create your own e-mail groups. You might find Mulberry's address book useful if you correspond frequently with people outside the University whose addresses are not in the U-M Online Directory. You can also use it to set nicknames for people. You can then type nicknames instead of full addresses when you send e-mail.
Your address book(s) are stored in the Address Books folder inside the Mulberry folder on your local computer. For this reason, you will not be able to access your address book if you use Mulberry on another computer, such as at the Campus Computing Sites.
You can get to your address books anytime by clicking the Contacts tab. (If you are not using Mulberry's three-pane display, make selections from the Address menu instead.)
Creating an Address Book
- Click the Contacts tab.
- Click the New button.
- Type a name for your address book, then click OK.
Adding people and groups
HINT: If you wish to add individuals from U-M, you can search the U-M Online Directory from within Mulberry and add the found individual(s) directly to your address book. See Searching the U-M Online Directory from Mulberry in the next section of this document for details.
- Select the address book you want to use.
HINT: To delete the Cyrusoft address book (Cyrusoft is the company that makes Mulberry), select it, then click the Delete icon.
- To add an individual entry to your address book, click the Single button. To add a group entry, click Group.
- Depending on whether you clicked the Single or Group button, an Address Edit or Group Edit dialog box will open.
- If you are entering an individual, fill in the Full Name and Email address fields. Fill in the other fields, such as the Nick-name field, if you wish. Then click OK, and the entry will appear in your address book.
- If you are entering a group, type the group name in the Group Name field and type individual e-mail addresses in the Addresses field. Press the Return or Enter key between each address. Then click OK, and the group entry will appear in your address book.
HINT: If you enter a nickname, you can then use it as the recipient when you compose new messages.
CAUTION! Do not use the same nickname more than once. If you have two entries with the same nickname and then send a message to that nickname, Mulberry sends the message to the first of the two entries only.
Importing an address book from Pine
Your Pine address book file is stored in your IFS home directory. You need to copy that file to your computer, then import the e-mail addresses from it into your Mulberry address book.
Download Your Pine Address Book
Use a secure file transfer program to get a copy of the file in your IFS home directory called .addressbook. Secure file transfer programs are included in the Internet Access Kit. Different programs are available for different operating systems:
Import the Addresses From Pine Into Your Mulberry Address Book
- Click the Contents tab.
- Click an address book to select it.
- From the Address menu, select Import Addresses then select Pine from the pop-up menu.
- A dialog box will open showing the files on your computer. Find the .addressbook file you downloaded, select it, and click Open.
- The entries from your Pine address book will be copied into your Mulberry address book.
Sending a message to someone in your address book
Select that personıs entry and click the Draft button. A new message window will open with the To field already filled in for you.
Searching the U-M Online Directory from Mulberry
- From the Address menu, select Search for Addresses.
- In the Address Search window, enter the text you want to search for and then either press the Enter or Return key or click the Search button.
- Your search results will appear. To send a message to the person whose entry you found, first select the entry in your search results list, then click the Draft button.
To save the entry for later use, drag it to your address book.
HINT: To see information from the directory entry of the person you searched for, double-click the search result (the person's name). The Address Edit window will open.
Using Mailboxes/Mail Folders
Your incoming mail goes to your INBOX. You can keep all your mail there, or you can create additional mailboxes to organize your mail. Because the mailboxes you create with Mulberry are stored on the e-mail server machine, they are still available to you if you use another IMAP e-mail program, such as Pine or mail.umich.edu. Both Pine and mail.umich.edu, however, refer to mailboxes as folders. Similarly, folders you create with Pine or mail.umich.edu on the e-mail server can be accessed with Mulberry.
NOTE: Mulberry cannot access e-mail folders that you created with Pine in your IFS space.
If you have already created folders/mailboxes for your ITCS e-mail account with another IMAP e-mail program, they will appear when you use Mulberry. If you have not, you will have two mailboxes: your INBOX and a sent-mail mailbox.
To create a new mailbox
- 1. From the Mailbox menu, select Create. Make sure no mailboxes are selected (highlighted) when you do this.
- The Create Mailbox dialog box will open. Enter the name you want for your mailbox in the Mailbox Name field. Then click OK.
- Your new mailbox will appear in your list of mailboxes.
To delete a mailbox
- Click the mailbox name to select the mailbox.
- From the Mailbox menu, select Delete Mailbox.
- A dialog box asking you if you really want to delete the mailbox will open. Click OK.
CAUTION! Don't click OK unless you really want to delete the mailbox and all its contents. Once the mailbox and its contents are deleted, they cannot be "undeleted."
To move a message to a mailbox
Click the message and drag it to the mailbox in which you want to store it. The message will be copied to the mailbox you moved it to and marked for deletion from the mailbox you moved it out of. If you want to keep a copy of the message in the original mailbox location, select or open the message and click the Undelete button in either the mailbox or message window.
HINT: Alternatively, with the message you want to move selected, click the Move to button at the top of the Mulberry window, and select a mailbox from the Move to pop-up menu.
CAUTION! All your mailboxes are stored on the e-mail servers. Moving a message from one mailbox to another will not reduce the amount of space you are using or keep you from going over quota if your mailbox is full.
Putting mailboxers inside other mailboxes
You can create mailboxes for your mailboxes. These are a sort of mega-mailboxyou put mailboxes inside them. You can use them to group related mailboxes together.

- Click the Create a Mailbox to Contain Mailboxes radio button.
- Type a name for the mailbox in the Name field.

Your new mailbox for mailboxes will appear in your mailbox list
You can drag and drop existing mailboxes into the new mailbox (which is represented in your mailbox list with an icon that looks like a folderyellow for Windows users and light blue for Macintosh users). You can create new mailboxes inside the mailbox by first selecting it, then choosing Create from the Mailboxes menu.
