Forwarding or Redirecting Your E-Mail Using the U-M Online Directory Via the Web

S4279 • November 2007

You can have the e-mail that is sent to you at your @umich.edu address forwarded to any e-mail account you choose. This is because when mail is sent to you at @umich.edu, U-M machines check the U-M Online Directory, then forward, or redirect, that mail on to the e-mail forwarding address(es) you specify. Use of the directory for e-mail forwarding means you can keep your @umich.edu address no matter where your e-mail mailbox resides.

If you use the IMAP e-mail service provided by Information Technology Central Services (ITCS), the e-mail forwarding address in your directory entry has been set for you so you can receive your e-mail. If you use the ITCS Exchange Service, your Exchange e-mail address must be in the U-M Online Directory E-mail Forwarding Address field. Your system administrator may do this for you, or you may need to do it yourself.

You can change the forwarding address any time you wish. For example, if you leave the University, you can have your e-mail forwarded to a different address. (See the E-Mail Forwarding Status page for details about mail providers that may not accept mail forwarded from @umich.edu addresses.)
