Outlook Web Access (OWA) FAQ: About Outlook Web Access
How can I get OWA to work again?
If you have successfully used OWA but are not able to access your mailbox now, select your computer and browser below. Try Option 1 first. If you are still not successful, try Option 2 and then Option 3 if you still cannot connect.
HINT: Make certain you're using your Exchange password and that the Caps Lock key is not active.


Windows Internet Explorer
- Option 1
- If you have a bookmark for OWA (exchange.umich.edu), delete it.
- Attempt to link to exchange.umich.edu. If you are successful, you can create a new bookmark.
- Option 2
- Under the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
- In the Internet Options window, under the Browsing history section, click Delete.
- In the Delete Browsing History window, click Delete all.
- Attempt to link to exchange.umich.edu.
- Option 3
- From the Windows Start button, select the appropriate steps based on your operating system:
- Windows XP
- Click Run.
- In the Run window's Open field, enter cmd and click OK.
- Windows Vista
- Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- If you receive a "Windows needs your permission" window, click Continue.
- When a black window opens, enter the following text: ipconfig /flushdns
- When you see the "Successfully flushed" message, you can close the window and test your connection to exchange.umich.edu. If you are still unable to connect, please call 764-HELP [764-4357] Option 2.

Windows Firefox
- Option 1
- If you have a bookmark for OWA (exchange.umich.edu), delete it.
- Attempt to link to exchange.umich.edu. If you are successful, you can create a new bookmark.
- Option 2
- Under the Tools menu, click Options.
- In the Options window:

- click the Privacy tab.
- under the Private Data section, click Clear Now.
- Attempt to link to exchange.umich.edu.
- Option 3
- From the Windows Start button, select the appropriate steps based on your operating system:
- Windows XP
- Click Run.
- In the Run window's Open field, enter cmd and click OK.
- Windows Vista
- Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- If you receive a "Windows needs your permission" window, click Continue.
- When a black window opens, enter the following text: ipconfig /flushdns

Macintosh Safari

- Attempt to link to exchange.umich.edu. If you are successful, you can create a new bookmark.
- Option 2
- Under the Safari menu, click Reset Safari.
- In the Reset Safari window, click Reset.
- Attempt to link to exchange.umich.edu.
- Option 3
- In your Applications folder, open the Utilities folder, then double-click Terminal.
- In the Terminal window, enter login and press Return.
- At the Login: prompt, enter your Macintosh User name and press Return.
- At the Password: prompt, enter your Macintosh User password and press Return.
- Based on your operating system, enter the appropriate bolded text:

lookupd -flushcache |
| Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) |
dscacheutil -flushcache |
- Press Return
- In the next line, enter logout and press Return.
- You can now close Terminal and test your connection to exchange.umich.edu. If you are still unable to connect, please call 764-HELP [764-4357] Option 2.

Macintosh Firefox
- Option 1
- If you have a bookmark for OWA (exchange.umich.edu), delete it.
- Attempt to link to exchange.umich.edu. If you are successful, you can create a new bookmark.
- Option 2
- Under the Firefox menu, click Preferences.
- In the Main window:

- click the Privacy tab.
- In the Privacy window, click Clear Now.
- Attempt to link to exchange.umich.edu.
- Option 3
- In your Applications folder, open the Utilities folder, then double-click Terminal.
- In the Terminal window, enter login and press Return.
- At the Login: prompt, enter your Macintosh User name and press Return.
- At the Password: prompt, enter your Macintosh User password and press Return.
- Based on your operating system, enter the appropriate bolded text:

- Press Return
- In the next line, enter exit and press Return.
