Windows Mobile 5.0 FAQ

I've lost my Windows 5.0 device, or it's been stolen. What do I do now?

If it's University property, you should file a report with your system administrator. Either you or your administrator should also file a Proof of Loss form with Risk Management.

You or your administrator should also request a remote reset by contacting the ITCS Exchange Service at exchange.support@umich.edu. This destroys all the data and any applications you've installed that are not stored on a memory card. Your Windows Active Directory password is stored on your Windows Mobile 5.0 device. With that password, an unscrupulous person can access all your data and University services (including e-mail) that is protected by it.

We will take appropriate steps to confirm your identity before proceeding with the remote reset.

Your Exchange data, of course, is safely stored on the Exchange server. You can still access it using Outlook, Entourage, or Outlook Web Access, and you can resync your device.
