Expanded Daylight Saving Time (DST) [Macintosh]
Starting this year, Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins 3 weeks early on March 11, the second Sunday of that month and stays in effect until the first Sunday in November. This change is mandated by the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
Until you apply the Apple and Microsoft updates to your operating system and Entourage, meetings you schedule may not appear at the correct time during the three week period between March 11 and the traditional start of DST.
- If you are running Mac OS X 10.3.9 or Tiger (10.4.x), download the latest Daylight Savings Time Update (released 2/15/07) using Software Update found under the Apple menu. If you don't know what operating system you have, click the Apple menu and select About This Mac.
- Install the Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac 11.3.3 Update. (Microsoft has also released an 11.3.4 update, but you must have previously installed 11.3.3, which deals with DST issues.)
RUNNING WINDOWS ON YOUR MAC? Visit our Windows DST page or check with your system administrator. At a minimum, you or that person will need to install the daylight savings time update for your Windows XP or Server 2003 operating system.
Advanced Tips
- Create a banner spanning March 11 through March 31 to remind you to double-check all meeting times. Mark the banner as "Free."
- Remind others to be alert by sending your banner as a meeting proposal. Under the Actions menu, uncheck Request Reponses so that recipients don't fill your mailbox with responses.
- You'll need to update your PDA or other mobile device as well.
