Exchange General FAQ: Getting Started

Which Exchange Server am I on?

ITCS is currently migrating users from an older version of Exchange (Server 2003) to the most current version — Exchange Server 2007. How you perform some tasks depends on which server your account resides upon.

HINT: Don't confuse the server dates with the version of Outlook that you might be using: Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007. The servers and Outlook are two separate things.

If your campus voice mail has recently been moved to Exchange Voice Mail, you are on Exchange Server 2007. You have Exchange Voice Mail if you access your campus voice mail by dialing:

  Ann Arbor 5-4242   (734-615-4242)
  Dearborn 3-6767   (313-583-6767)
  Flint 4-5353   (810-424-5353)

Other ways to find out which server your Exchange account is on:

  • ask your system administrator
  • if you use Outlook:

    1. Start Outlook if it's not already running.
    2. In the Windows System Tray (where the clock is), Ctrl-click the Outlook icon.
      • Outlook icon in Windows System Tray

      1. select Connection Status
      2. the Exchange Server Connection Status window, determine the server you're connected to by the first letters of the server name:
NOTE: You'll probably see more than one server name. You're only looking for the following first letters.
          ECLUST Exchange Server 2003
          ITCS Exchange Server 2007
