Enterprise Directory Project Phase 1 (2004)

Phase 1 of the Enterprise Directory Project, initiated by the ITCommons Directory Services Working Group, built a business case for an enterprise directory, including a conceptual architecture, project estimates, and a project plan.

This page provides access to the documents produced during Phase 1, which was completed in 2004.


Project Charge and Scope

In March 2004, a team was charged with creating a visionary architecture and overall description of what an enterprise directory for U-M should be.

    This document includes an executive summary, introduction, statement of opportunity, current state of directories, project scope and vision, proposed governance structure, proposed funding model, and recommendation.

    This PowerPoint presentation includes detailed diagrams of the current and proposed future arhitecture of U-M directory services, as well as case studies illustrating how directory services could be used.

    A description of a proposed enterprise directory services governance board represent the varied sources of data, reconcile discrepancies, and establish guidelines for consistent use and access.

Status Reports

    Reports that informational interviews were held with many people across campus to gather information.

    Reports that a project launch was held February 18, 2004, and the core team and resource team membership was defined at the launch meeting.

    Reports that six focus groups were held in April 2004 and many interviews have been conducted as part of requirements-gathering activities.

    Reports that progress was made on a funding model and a governance model. Community requirements have been gathered and categorized.
