Vital Statistics

Size

The VDC comprises 5,380 square feet of machine room space on East Campus as well as 3,600 square feet of machine room space on Central Campus, which contains 1,450 square feet targeted for disaster recovery functions.

Climate Control

Our air conditioning systems provide a constant temperature and humidity level.

Power

The East Campus data center's power is backed up by a diesel generator, which can keep the site running indefinitely, as long as diesel fuel is available. There are multiple sources available to supply diesel fuel.

The Central Campus location has dual electrical feeds, both from Edison and the University Power Generation Facility. It is also wired to plug in a generator in the unlikely event that both power sources fail simultaneously.

Fire Protection

We employ a sprinkler system in our East Campus data center and an FM200 fire suppression system in the Central Campus facility.

Security

Two-level security is provided 24 hours/7 days a week. The buildings provide guard service on a 24/7 basis and the facilities themselves are keycard-protected (via the university M-card access control system).

Support

The Network Operations Center (NOC) provides a 24/7 point of contact regarding Data Center issues or problems requiring immediate response. Telephone: 615-4209     E-mail: trouble@umich.edu

Policies

In order to maintain a consistent and well-managed environment, tenants operate on a clear set of policies and procedures.

If you are interesting in using the VDC for your machines, contact us for more information.
