Adobe Acrobat Reader

Acrobat Reader allows you to display and print a PDF document from any computer (Macintosh, Windows, DOS, or Unix) regardless of the fonts or software programs used to create the original file. Acrobat Reader files ensure that you get what you see when you print (a real time and money saver).

In order to view and print PDF (.pdf) files, you must have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your computer and your web browser configured to use it.

U-M Campus Computing Site Users
If you are in a Campus Computing Site, Acrobat Reader is already set up for your use and you do not need to follow the steps here. If you experience any problems or need assistance, contact the Sites Consultants (in a staffed site) or call 64-SITES (in unstaffed sites).

Step 1. Download and Install Adobe Acrobat Reader

Adobe Acrobat Reader is available free of charge from Adobe's web site. Note that the ONLY software you need in order to view and print these forms is Adobe Acrobat Reader. You do not need Acrobat 3.0, Acrobat Capture, WebLink, or any other programs you may see mentioned on Adobe's site.

Step 2. Configure Adobe Acrobat Reader For Your Web Browser

After you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, you will need to configure it to run as an external viewer or "helper application" for your web browser. Note that "application/pdf" is the official assigned MIME type for PDF documents - the file format used by Adobe Acrobat software.
